How to make an application to become a Midwife at Hunter New England Health.
MidStart Positions
Hunter New England offers numerous MidStart positions across a large geographical demographic. As a Health service, we pride ourselves in the commitment to supporting and engaging registered nurses who are passionate about commencing their midwifery journey.
Employment contracts
Length of employment contract varies depending on what facility you are successful in gaining a position and what university programme you enrol in. All post graduate midwifery students can apply for a NNSW Helth post graduate scholarship. Applications usually close in February for each calendar year. Your application for the scholarship will e supported by HNELHD. FTE ranges from 6 days per fortnight to full time.

Support
HNELHD have fabulous clinical midwifery education teams and mentoring programmes that facilitate learning and midwifery experiences throughout your post graduate training.
We have may models of care across the district, including Midwifery Group Pracitices (MGP), Team Midwifery, high risk models of care, student antenatal clinics, Aboriginal Maternal Infant Health Services and Midwifery lead antenatal, Birth and Parenting education facilitation and postnatal models (MAPS). As a District, we are continually working towards models of care that embrace, engage and support women and their families, to partner with midwives and care providers to meeting their individual needs and birthing journey.
