Get involved with HNE Health

Would you like to help make our hospitals and health services a better place for everyone?

Hunter New England Health is committed to ensuring genuine patient and community partnership in healthcare decisions, in planning our services, designing care, and monitoring and evaluating our services. Understanding the experiences and perspectives of our consumers and communities helps us to improve the quality and safety of the services we provide.

Putting our patients at the centre of what we do, and doing it consistently and with respect, is what we strive for at Hunter New England Health. We work with patients, their carers and families, and with our diverse communities to continually improve the patient experience and the way we deliver health services.

There are a number of ways you can get involved with Hunter New England Health:

Consumers

Consumer representative is the term we use to describe people who partner with us by providing a patient, carer and community perspective in decision-making, service planning and improvement. They are people who currently use our health services (patients, consumers and their carers and families) and community members who may need to in the future

Consumer representatives are people just like you, who come from across all areas of the Hunter New England area. They bring a range of experiences to their roles, including experience as patients and carers. Consumer representatives are volunteers who generously provide their time, knowledge and expertise. Their involvement ensures that the services and programs delivered by us meet the needs of our communities

Volunteers

We recognise and value the important role our volunteers play in supporting us to provide quality health care in Hunter New England Local Health District. We all work together towards our vision - to improve health outcomes for our communities: Healthy People – now and in the future.

There are many opportunities for volunteers within our organisation.  Some of these include:

  • Meeting and greeting families and visitors to our facilities in a friendly and positive way
  • Helping out in kiosks to raise money
  • Spending one-on-one time with patients and families, providing support or activities.

The type of activity you can assist with will depend on the needs of your local health facility.

Give as little or as much time as you like. Whatever you are able to give will help make a difference.

To start your volunteering journey, please contact the Volunteer Service at your local health facility to find out more.
