Inpatient Services at Maitland Hospital

Emergency Department

Assessment of urgent patients who cannot wait to see their GP.

Emergency care for paediatrics and adults.

Ground floor. Use Emergency department entrance (no public access from the main entrance).

Open:  24 hours a day, 7 days a week including public holidays.

Inpatient Services

Patients who are staying at the  hospital (admitted) receive these services.

Doctors, Nurses and Allied health staff  (Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Dieticians, Speech Pathologists, Social Workers and Allied Health Assistants) work on the Inpatient wards.

Patients who are sick with a range of issues or recovering from surgery will be treated here.

Wards 3A and 3B, Level 3.

Wards 4C and 4D. Level 4.

Mental Health Unit 

Treatment of conditions relating to the mind, brain and well being.

Birthing Suite

Support for women during labour and birth, and care for women with normal to high risk of obstetric or medical conditions.

Clinical Social Worker - Assessments, intervention and referrals.  Including Grief & Loss counselling support and follow up

Monday - Friday, 8:00am -4:30pm

On Call - Saturday & Sunday, 8:00am - 6:00pm (For pregnancy loss)

Day Stay Unit (Level 1)

Monday to Friday 7:00am - 8:30pm.

Saturday 7:00am = 2:30pm (only as required)

Paediatric Unit

Overnight inpatient services for babies, children and young people (0 -17 years of age)

7 day / 24-hour service

Special Care Unit

Babies requiring close monitoring and treatment. Overnight inpatient services for neonates

Level 1

Paediatric Hospital in the Home

For paediatric patients who would otherwise require inpatient care and need continuing treatment or monitoring, but are stable and well enough to be discharged home.

Paediatric HITH RN:  Monday, Wednesday & Friday.

All other days & afterhours via On-Call Paediatric Registrar

Children and Adolescents Ward

Unit in the hospital for children and young people up to the age of 17 years.

Ward  4B, Level 4.

Maternity Ward

Services to manage mothers before, during and after giving birth.

Clinical Social Worker - Assessments, intervention and referrals.  Including Grief & Loss counselling support and follow up

Lactation Service

Assistance, support and advice for women & families with breastfeeding. Breastfeeding Clinic

7 days - 7:00am - 3:30pm

Breastfeeding Clinic

Outpatients Department, Ground Floor. Alternate Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm.

Breastfeeding Classes

Every 2 weeks on Thursday (once only). Alternating between morning or evening.

Parenting Education Service

Antenatal education programs for women & their support person with their physical & emotional preparation for pregnancy, birth and early parenting. Offered Face to face or live streamed. Other specialised programs include a Young parents group and Next Birth after Caesarean (NBAC), face to face only.

Options include:

6 week programs on Tuesday or Wednesday, 6:30pm - 8:30pm.

2 week programs on Saturday 9:00am - 3:00pm.

Next Birth After Caesarean (NBAC) is held 2nd Tuesday every 2nd month, 3:00pm - 5:00pm.

Young Parents Group held monthly on a Tuesday 3:00pm - 5:00pm.

Intensive Care Unit

Patients requiring close monitoring and high treatment needs will be looked after here.
