Clinical and Health Service Research Fellowship Scheme
Round 8 NOW OPEN
A capacity building program that seeks to support established and emerging researchers/improvement professionals to become the research and improvement leaders of the future.
The purpose of the HNELHD CHSRFS is to:
- Build HNE clinical and health service research capability and leadership by supporting and providing resources to backfill substantive positions to allow HNE Healthcare Professional/Clinicians to engage in relevant health service/clinical research and related professional development opportunities.
- Enable high-quality clinically relevant research that aligns with HNELHD priorities to improve patient, health outcomes and service efficiencies locally, nationally and internationally.
- Contribute to a culture of research and evidence-based improvement in HNELHD whereby research activity and evidence becomes integral to the provision of evidence-based care and improvement initiatives.
In Round 8 of the CHSRFS there will be two Fellowships on offer for a 3 year period:
- HNE/HMRI General Fellowship - engaged in promoting clinical health service driven research, co-mentored/supervised by HNE and HMRI.
- NSW Health Pathology/HNE Research Fellowship - this Fellowship will support pathology-related research that is translational (potential benefit to patient care and/or the local community), co-mentored/supervised by HNE and NSWHP.
All fellowship projects are encouraged that:
- Improve the patient experience of care (including quality and satisfaction).
- Improve health outcomes.
- Reduce the per capita cost of health care.

Submission and Endorsement:
Brief Application
- Complete the Brief Application Form template in accordance with the guidelines.
- Seek endorsement from the appropriate Managers (relative to each Service impacted by the project) and complete the HNELHD Endorsements page.
- Email completed and endorsed form with any supporting attachments to the HNE Research Office HNELHD-ResearchOffice@health.nsw.gov.au
Please note the Brief Application is NOT submitted through Award Force.
Full Application
- The Full Application Form template may be used to develop the application and copy/paste answers into the online submission tool Award Force
- Save all supporting documentation (including flow chart/s etc.) as separate word, jpeg or pdf files.
- Submit Full Application via Award Force https://hnehealth.awardsplatform.com
NOTE: In order to complete Research Supervisor and Research Mentor Endorsements the application must first be submitted in Award Force. An automated email will then be sent to the nominated Supervisor / Mentor with a link to the application for their endorsement.
Attachments may take some time to upload to Award Force before being able to submit an application. Applicants should ensure they leave adequate time for submission and endorsement of their application online by the advised deadline.
