HMRI Cafe - Table of Wisdom

HMRI Data Sciences is offering free, drop-in consulting to assist with statistical challenges in research to anyone in the HMRI community. The team of data managers and statisticians will be available to provide guidance on a variety of data management and/or statistical matters related to data collection, data analysis and result interpretation. This includes, but is not limited to:

• Database design and data capture (REDCap)
• Appropriate statistical tests
• Data preparation/wrangling
• Best practice recommendations for analysing observational datasets
• Experimental design (including sample size/power)
• Challenges associated with data sets, including 'Big Data'
• Regression modelling suggestions (appropriate modelling types for your outcome, model checking advice)
• Regression diagnostics
• Reporting suggestions
• Data visualisation tips

Researchers are encouraged to seek advice early in their projects, though enquiries are welcome at any stage. Please come prepared with any relevant materials. Services in these sessions will focus on data management and statistical issues, such as defining a scientific question in statistical terms, or selecting suitable statistical methods. Support is not offered for purely programming-related issues, such as error troubleshooting in complex code or executing specific tests in software. If your query is going to take longer than ~10 minutes to respond to, it may be recommended that you make a separate meeting time to discuss your analysis.
