Staying Healthy

Maintaining health and wellbeing is a focus for everyone, but especially for pregnant women and new mums during the lockdown period.

It is important to continue a healthy diet and to get adequate rest and sleep. Exercise is also an important factor to promote health and wellbeing unless your doctor has advised you otherwise.

Have you heard of Get Healthy in Pregnancy? This is a free health and wellbeing coaching service for pregnant women to support pregnant women to eat healthy, get active and stay active, have a healthy weight gain during pregnancy and to assist you after your baby is born. Be sure to wear a well-fitting face mask and follow guidelines as directed by local authoroites.

Remember to wash or sanitise your hands frequently.

Some women may experience feelings of claustrophobia while being inside during lockdown. Its ok to open the windows and let in fresh air or spend time on your doorstep, balcony or in your garden. Even just looking at the sky can help to give you a sense of space.

Practicing mindfulness helps us to stay in the present moment and helps us to stay calm. There are many apps and resources available on mindfulness such as the app MindMum.

Staying connected with your support networks such as family, friends, colleagues and other supports via email, text, social media, video conferencing technology or telephone can help to reduce feelings of isolation and pass the time. Connecting and communicating with others can help to relieve stress, anxiety, feelings of loneliness and boredom and may help to promote positive mental health.
