IMET have launched a Future Leaders Development Program for doctors in training who have an interest in further developing their skills in leadership, medical education and training. The program will commence in February 2009 and is offered over 12 months. It is open to trainees in NSW (PGY2 to fellow; prevocational and vocational) with the aim of developing leaders at all stages of training. The program will involve participation of up to 20 trainees in five workshops supported by e-learning, self directed learning, group projects, a mentorship program and practical leadership experience involving membership of IMET and other committees, culminating in a formally assessed program. Please find below the promotional flyer and application form. Applications must be submitted by Friday, 5th December 2008, with successful applicants notified in early January 2009.

HNET are very proud to be the recipient of the Hunter New England Health Quality Award in the category "Build a Sustainable Health Workforce". Our entry was titled 'Build a sustainable psychiatry workforce through education and training'. This entry has also made the finals of the 10th Annual NSW Health Awards and the NSW Premier's Awards.

"The 2007 NSW Mental Health Act - The Patient, The Community and Values Symposium" will be held on Thursday, 27th November 2008 at the University of Sydney. See documents below for information:

Dr Anoop Sankaranarayanan has set up a Critical Appraisal Journal Club, teaching the skills necessary for critical analysis questions in the College written exam. The first session will be held on Tuesday, 14th October from 5.00pm to 6.00pm in Conference Room 1, James Fletcher Hospital.
