Hunter New England Local Health District Board Aboriginal Health Committee

The Committee is responsible for providing strategic advice to the Board and Chief Executive in regard to HNE Health’s Closing the Gap strategy. It will lead and guide our Aboriginal Health Strategy as it seeks to improve health outcomes for our Aboriginal populations across our shared boundaries. We aim to provide increasingly integrated and co-ordinated health services through both a primary health care and clinically-led service development and its implementation. Consideration will be given to impact on the whole of the system, the client’s outcome and experience and the efficient and effective use of resources.

Sector / Facility Aboriginal Health & Wellbeing Partnership Groups

The key role of the Sector / Facility Partnership Group’s is to provide leadership in the local community to ensure health services meet local Aboriginal health needs and ensure the promotion and enhancement of the health of the community. Roles include;

  • Developing Sector / Facility Close the Gap Action Plan with key priorities for focus

  • Plan and deliver integrated services to the local community.

  • Provide a forum for discussing and resolving local operational issues

  • Monitor and evaluate progress against key priorities in Close the Gap Action Plan

  • Promote and enhance health of the local communities

Close the Gap facility / Sector Aboriginal Collaborative Groups

The key role of facility / Sector Aboriginal Collaborative Groups is to provide integrated, planned and effective leadership, guidance and direction in the development, implementation and evaluation of services provided to Aboriginal people in the local facility / sector.   Collaboratives provide a forum to raise awareness and promote Aboriginal Health equality, invest in planning to improve service delivery co-ordination/ and or integration between the services, and they also identify funding opportunities and implementing processes to secure funding. Collaboratives also undertake planning, performance reviews and monitoring of Close the Gap key performance indicators at local facilities.
