Health Education and Training Institute (HETI)

Where innovation drives excellence in education and training for improved health outcomes.

The Health Education and Training Institute (HETI) is a pillar organisation within NSW Health providing training and education support to more than 110,000 clinical and non-clinical staff across NSW Health and beyond. HETI has also recently introduced postgraduate courses in Mental Health through HETI Higher Education.

At its core, HETI advances the workforce capability of NSW Health staff through the development and delivery of education and training to clinical and non-clinical staff, trainers, managers, supervisors and the like. Part of this includes My Health Learning, the state-wide learning management system that delivers and tracks learning opportunities for all NSW Health employees.

HETI works collaboratively with NSW Health Local Health Districts and specialty health networks (LHDNs) to ensure localised training requirements are met. HETI is also focused on improving the health outcomes of rural and regional communities and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, and has a range of programs and scholarships to meet education and training needs in these areas.

Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI)

The Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) is a translational research institute based in the Hunter region of New South Wales, Australia.

Through its pioneering partnership with Hunter New England Local Health District and the University of Newcastle, HMRI delivers key translational health and medical research and technology closely aligned to community health needs.

Throughout Newcastle and the Hunter New England region, more than 1400 clinical and biomedical researchers operate under the HMRI umbrella to prevent, cure and treat a diverse range of serious illnesses. Researchers and clinicians from Hunter New England Health, the University of Newcastle and Calvary Mater Newcastle work across seven key areas: Brain & Mental Health; Cancer; Cardiovascular Health; Information Based Medicine; Pregnancy & Reproduction; Public Health; and Viruses, Infection/ Immunity, Vaccines & Asthma (VIVA).

HMRI provides vital funding and support to fuel health and medical research. HMRI attracts significant community donations and government funding to directly support research activity in the Hunter region including research projects, equipment, key research staff and infrastructure.
