Smoke-free Health Service

About the Smoke-free Health Service Policy - what does it mean?

Hunter New England Health became totally smoke-free from 31 October 2006, enacting NSW Health’s Smoke-free Workplace Policy.

This policy means all sites are smoke-free - this includes all grounds, vehicles, car parks and buildings. We are committed to protecting staff, patients and visitors from the harmful effects of tobacco smoke. Smoking is the single largest preventable cause of death and disease in Australia, with more than 6,500 annual deaths and around 80,000 hospital admissions from tobacco related illnesses reported in New South Wales.

Information relating to smoking and the NSW Health Smoke-free Workplace Policy can also be accessed on the NSW Health website at www.health.nsw.gov.au
