ROYAL NEWCASTLE CENTRE

The Royal Newcastle Centre is a $112 million state-of-the-art health facility, which opened on the Rankin Park campus next to John Hunter Hospital in April 2006.

It is the home of many specialist services from the Royal Newcastle Hospital and some medical, diagnostic and outpatient services that were previously provided at John Hunter Hospital.

The Royal Newcastle Centre has 84 inpatient beds in three wards and 60 interventional suite beds. It has three levels and includes procedure rooms catering for a wide range of clinical conditions, consulting rooms for a wide range of ambulatory (outpatient) care services, operating rooms, overnight and day wards.

The Royal Newcastle Centre provides treatment for patients in specialities such as:
• Orthopaedics
• Orthopaedic rehabilitation
• Rheumatology
• Urology
• Ophthalmology
• Dermatology
• Diabetes
• Immunology
• Podiatry.

Other clinical services include medical and surgical outpatients, cardiac catheterisation, endoscopy, diagnostic radiology, pathology testing, surgical services, interventional procedures and the Hunter Integrated Pain Service.

Level One:
• Physical therapies: Occupational therapy, physiotherapy and other allied health services

Level Two:
• Main entry
• Admission office
• Ambulatory care centre: Medical and Surgical Outpatients
• Diagnostic unit
• 28-bed ward: Urology and Rheumatology
• Infusion lounge
• Transit/Discharge lounge
• Retail services including retail pharmacy
• Education and conference facilities

Level Three:
• Day procedures
• Interventional Suite: including cardiac catherterisation laboratory, operating theatres and endoscopy rooms.
• 200-seat lecture theatre
• 28-bed ward: Elective Orthopaedic Surgery

Visiting hours
Some wards are closed to visitors during the 1pm - 3pm rest period. Please contact the Information Desk by telephoning 4922 3000 for details of visiting hours for a specific ward as they vary from ward to ward in the centre.

Appointments
For outpatient appointments, please call the Referral Management Centre on 4922 3912.

Parking 
Car parking on the campus is managed by Interpark. Please note that timed parking is in place on the Rankin Park campus, given the high demand for parking at this site.

For your convenience, Hunter New England Health operates a free off-site parking and shuttle bus service at Energy Australia Stadium as an option for outpatients and visitors. The service operates between 9.00am and 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, and the bus completes one round trip every 40 minutes. More information about parking, including the full bus timetable and hourly parking rates is available at http://www.hnehealth.nsw.gov.au/parking  or by phoning InterPark on (02) 4921 4715.

Public transport
Royal Newcastle Centre and John Hunter Hospital are well serviced by Newcastle bus routes 222, 224, 226 and 363. The bus stop is located at the front of John Hunter Hospital, which is next to the Royal Newcastle Centre next door. Disabled access
Royal Newcastle Centre is fully accessible for visitors with a disability. Limited disabled parking is available on Level 1 and 2 of car park 6 or Level B of car park No.2. A drop off area is located out the front of the Royal Newcastle Centre to drop off and pick up patients.

Volunteers
John Hunter Site Carers (The Carers) provide volunteer services to Royal Newcastle Centre and John Hunter Hospital. The Carers are made up of volunteers who have previously provided service with the Royal Newcastle Hospital Pink Ladies and the John Hunter Hospital Kookaburra Carers. The Carers work in many areas of the hospital to improve patient comfort and are located on Level 1 of the Royal Newcastle Centre.
