Tomaree Community Hospital

TOMAREE COMMUNITY HOSPITAL

The Tomaree Community Hospital provides quality care to people living in Nelson Bay and surrounding areas. When it opened in 1988, the community hospital had 12 beds. Following a community-funded refurbishment in 1996, it now has an additional two single bed ensuite rooms primarily for palliative care patients.

The services of the Tomaree Community Hospital include:

• emergency services
• care for adults who are ill but do not require surgery and people recuperating from illness or surgery
• palliative care
• respite care for the aged, young and disabled (Monday to Friday)
• post natal care for women eligible for early discharge from their obstetric hospital.

The Community Hospital is always staffed by a minimum of two registered nurses with advanced life support training, ensuring care and assistance 24 hours a day. A doctor is on call for inpatients and emergency care.

Hours of operation
Tomaree Community Hospital operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Normal business hours are 8:30am - 5:00pm weekdays.

Visiting hours
Visiting hours are flexible, with a rest period from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.

Parking
There is a car park off Trevally Street (no fee).

Disabled access
There is disabled parking available, and a bell at the front entry of the facility.
