New Nurse Graduate Program structure


Participants are employed on a temporary full time contract for 12 months.  The hospital participates as part of the Greater Newcastle Cluster 1st Year RN Transitional Program consisting of a centralised orientation program, study days and three clinical rotations. 

 

Rotations in the Greater Newcastle Cluster 1st Year RN Transitional Program:


•    The first rotation of 20 weeks will in a clinical unit at John Hunter Hospital.

•    The second rotation of 16 weeks will be in one of the following services Belmont District Health Service, the Cavlary Mater Newcastle hospital and the Royal Newcastle Centre.

•    The third rotation of 16 weeks will be within a clinical unit at the John Hunter Hospital.


Clinical rotations at John Hunter Hospital include Medical, Surgical, Haematology, Oncology and Palliative Care.  Participants will also rotate to another facility within the Greater Newcastle Cluster and this may include the Calvary Mater Newcastle hospital, Belmont Hospital, Drug and Alcohol Services, and the Royal Newcastle Centre.

Participants will be rostered to work shift work. Annual leave is built into the rotational program and any accrued pro rata annual leave is paid out at the end of the employment contract. Registered nurses may negotiate with the hospital to arrange continuing employment subject to the availability of vacancies at the end of their contract.
