NGO Program Unit

The Non Government Organisation (NGO) Program Unit is situated in the Booth Building at Wallsend Health Campus. It is responsible for the administration of the NSW Health/HNE Health NGO Grant Program across the Hunter New England Area Health Service region, and for the preparation of NGO Grant Program Recommendations to NSW Health.
The NGO Program Unit is within the Directorate of Integration and Partnerships reporting to the Director of Population Health, Planning and Performance.  

Activities of the NGO Program Unit include:

• negotiation of Funding and Performance Agreements (FPAs)
• performance management
• overseeing payment
• financial monitoring
• liaison/support provision to NGO projects funded under the NSW Health/HNE Health NGO Grant Program

Health funded NGOs projects are aligned with Department/Area Health Services strategic directions and in HNE Area Health Service projects are funded from a diversity of program areas including:

• aged/disabled and carers 
• community health promotion
• drug and alcohol
• HIV/AIDS
• health transport
• men’s health
• mental health
• oral health
• palliative care volunteers
• women’s health

The NGO Program Unit works closely with HNE Health program managers to provide relevant policy information to NGOs.
 
A focus area for the NGO Program Unit is to develop effective partnerships between HNE Health programs and Health funded NGOs with the objective of improving the health of the communities across the Area Health Service.
