Opinions sought for local health service delivery and planning
Novocastrians are being offered the opportunity to join the Newcastle Local Health Advisory Committee (LHAC), to play an important role in providing advice on local health needs, health services and community consultation.
Manager of Western Newcastle Community Health Kerrie Moore said the existing committee was seeking diversity from new members at the upcoming September meeting, to be held on Thursday night.
“We need enthusiastic community members who have an interest in local health issues to apply to join the Local Health Advisory Committee,” Ms Moore said.
“Committee members have a valuable role to play by providing advice and input to Hunter New England Health staff on the provision of health services in the greater Newcastle region,” she said.
“We are looking for people who have a wide network of local connections and knowledge that can help us foster two-way communication between the health service and the community.”
Committee members do not need a background in the health industry, but should have a good understanding of the local Newcastle community.
The Newcastle Local Health Advisory Committee provides advice and input to the health service, with a range of responsibilities including:
• To help influence decision making about local health services by providing an effective conduit from the local health service to the community and back
• To be involved or consulted in the development of, or changes to, health services in the local community, including providing advice to the health service based on members’ experience with community projects and activities
• Forge linkages with existing or planned Hunter New England Health strategic and promotional activities to maximise efforts to share important health information
“Committee members obtain feedback from the community, and ensure the views of the community are represented at committee meetings,” Ms Moore said.
“If you have an interest in health and are keen to become involved, then we invite you to apply for membership on this committee,” she said.
Application forms and further information about these positions can be obtained from Kerrie Moore at Newcastle West Community Health on 4924 6100 or at kerrie.moore@hnehealth.nsw.gov.au
Community members from the greater Newcastle region, including inner Newcastle, Wallsend, Waratah, Lambton, New Lambton, Sandgate, Shortland, Hexham, Elermore Vale, Birmingham Gardens, Hamilton, Islington, Merewether, Broadmeadow, Tighes Hill and Adamstown and surrounding suburbs, are invited to nominate for the committee.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday 25 September at 5pm, Newcastle Health Centre, 670 Hunter Street, Newcastle.
