Focus remains on delivering quality rural care
26 November 2008
Hunter New England Health staff contributed to the success of the inaugural Rural and Remote Health Conference, an event aimed at showcasing rural and remote health care initiatives.
More than 220 health professionals from Australia and overseas met in Coffs Harbour to attend the conference from 19 to 21 November, with the event organised by the NSW Institute of Rural Clinical Services and Teaching (IRCST).
Of the 30 presentations delivered during the conference, almost half were delivered by HNE Health representatives.
Hunter New England Health staffers also scooped the prize pool at the event, claiming five out of six awards for presentations delivered during the conference. HNE Health prize winners were Sharon Nash, Lauren O’Neill, Jennifer Simpson, Marianne Gaul, Lin Davis and Helen Stevens.
The focus of the inaugural conference was delivering better health care for regional communities, with rural and remote health workers given the opportunity to share their research, innovations and experiences.
Hunter New England Health’s Director of Primary and Community Networks, Scott McLachlan, said the leadership shown by HNE Health representatives during the conference was testament to both the quality of HNE Health staff and their projects.
“It is imperative that we work together to ensure essential services are made available and retained in regional and rural areas, and that we strive to improve and deliver high quality services,” Mr McLachlan said.
The focus on delivering better health care for regional communities will continue in Tamworth this week, when Hunter New England Health hosts its annual Primary and Community Networks Manager Development Program.
The event – to be held at Country Comfort Tamworth Towers this Thursday and Friday – will bring together health professionals from throughout the HNE Health region and will include a series of workshops and presentations.
Some of the topics to be addressed during the Management Development Program will include Improving the Patient Experience, Practice Change and Integrating Health Care.
Hunter New England Health’s Director of Primary and Community Networks, Scott McLachlan, will lead the event.
