Connecting the dots
The Narrabri Community will have access the latest information about diabetes at a workshop called “Connecting the Dots in Diabetes” to be held on Tuesday 2 December.
Staff from Hunter New England Health including a dietician, a diabetes educator and local optometrist will hold information seminars to advise people living with diabetes.
Diabetes Clinical Nurse Specialist, Natalie Smith said it’s important for members of the community to be aware of how they can reduce the likelihood of developing diabetes.
The rate of people diagnosed with diabetes in the Narrabri district increased by 60.8 per cent over five years prompting Narrabri Community Health Service to develop a number of strategies to reduce the growing trend.
“At the workshop people can find out how they can access health services to support people with diabetes and their families and carers as well as learning some of the simple ways they can adopt a healthier lifestyle,” Ms Smith said.
Sessions at the workshop include:
• Managing your diabetes, key points and tips;
• Exercise programs for the home;
• Getting the most out of your food;
• Caring for your eyes.
Staff from the Narrabri Community Health Service have joined forces with Diabetes Australia to bring this workshop to Narrabri.
“The workshop costs $5 for members of Diabetes Australia and $8 for their partners, for non-members the workshop costs $15 to attend and includes a light morning tea on arrival and lunch.” she said.
The workshop will be held at the Narrabri Crossing Theatre in the Riverside Room, Tuesday 2 December starting at 10am. Bookings are essential please call 49 29 6970 to register before 28 November. Media are invited to attend.
