Barraba’s voice on community health
26 May 2008
If you live in the Barraba community and have something to say or a question to ask about health services in the area, turn to the Barraba Local Health Advisory Committee (LHAC).
The Barraba LHAC is made up of seven local people with a passion for delivering quality health services to the Barraba community. The committee is interested to ensure all community members have their say on how services can be improved in the local area.
A formal part of Hunter New England Health’s community engagement framework, the Barraba LHAC provides a vital link between the organisation and the people it serves.
Barraba LHAC Chair Bronwyn Clinch said the committee was a well-informed group, and while some members had a professional background in the health service there was always a need to have more input from the community.
“The only way to continually enhance services and make sure those services meet the needs of the local community well into the future is to consider the opinion of the people living and working in Barraba,” Ms Clinch said.
“In order to give worthwhile feedback to Hunter New England Health, we need to hear the voice of the Barraba community, which will eventually be the beneficiaries of our work.
“In its short life, the Barraba LHAC has contributed to a number of projects that improve the provision of health to the community, including community awareness of mental health services, participation on a number of Health Services subcommittees, the recent re-accreditation of the hospital and the upgrade of aged care facilities at Garvan House MPS.”
Barraba LHAC members include:
Bronwyn Clinch – LHAC chair
Cathy Stein – Barraba Health Service Manager
David York
Lib Crowl
Dr Deepal Gunasekera
Angela Bright
Philip Hodges
“We are all very accessible and certainly all very interested to hear from the community,” Ms Clinch said.
