Barraba recognised for quality health care
29 May 2008
The Barraba Health Service has received official notification from the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) that it has received conditional accreditation for 12 months, as part of Hunter New England Health’s Peel Cluster accreditation review.
The Certificate of Accreditation was recently presented to Hunter New England Health’s General Manger of the Peel Cluster, Paul Gorrick.
The Accreditation is recognition of the dedication and hard work of all staff in reaching Australian health industry standards in clinical care and safety.
Mr Gorrick congratulated Barraba Health Service Manager Cathy Stein and her staff on their achievement.
“Barraba Health Service is well-recognised as a leader in aged care within the Multipurpose Health Service Program and highly regarded by senior clinicians for the level of patient care and health promotion it provides to the community,” Mr Gorrick said.
“Patients and aged care residents are well supported by a range of clinical and support staff, and there are strong community links to the community through the Barraba Local Health Advisory Committee and Richardson House.
“I congratulate the staff of Barraba Health Service for their dedication to providing quality health care to the community.”
Mr Gorrick said ACHS assessors apply a fine-tooth-comb approach to their assessment of five key standards:
• Continuum of Care
• Information Management
• Leadership and Management
• Safe Practice and Environment
• Human Resource management
Conditional accreditation is awarded pending compliance with recommendations arising from the ACHS Evaluation and Quality Improvement Program (EQuIP). For Barraba Health Service, the recommendation included fire safety upgrades to the facility.
Barraba staff celebrated the achievement with a morning tea which also recognised International Nurses Day and the role nurses play within our health services.
