Armidale Hospital welcomes the appointment of specialist physician Dr Sudheer Ahamed.
Dr Ahamed completed his undergraduate and postgraduate study in his home country of India, before working as a consultant physician at the PVS Hospital in Calicut, India and as a specialist physician at the Sohar Hospital, Oman.
Dr Ahamed, who commenced at Armidale Hospital last week, most recently worked as a specialist physician at the Sultan Qaboos University Hospital in Muscat, Oman. He has a special interest in infectious diseases and neurology.
He is also a member of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom.
Dr Ahamed said the welcome he had received at Armidale Hospital had influenced his decision to relocate to Australia.
“When I was offered a position I went to the hospital for a visit, to see the facility and meet the staff,” Dr Ahamed said.
“The natural beauty of the place and warmth and friendliness of the people have played a major role in my decision to come to Armidale.”
Dr Ahamed said he had enjoyed looking around Armidale, and has been impressed by the heritage buildings in the city. He said he was looking forward to getting into sport, particularly badminton.
Dr Ahamed’s wife and daughter will arrive in Armidale next month. His wife is anaesthetist Dr Prapulla Ahamed, who is currently working at the Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, Muscat and his 11-year-old daughter Nehna.
General Manager of Tamworth and Armidale Hospitals Fergus Fitzsimons welcomes Dr Ahamed to the position.
“Dr Ahamed’s appointment is great news for Armidale Hospital,” Mr Fitzsimons said.
“The career and lifestyle opportunities that Armidale offers has once again attracted a talented specialist to our region.
