Heeding the request of Forster mothers

20 March 2008

A new Birth and Parenting class is to start at Forster as a result of feedback from women in the area.

Manning Hospital Midwife and Childbirth Educator Namira Williams said the health service had consulted a wide range of women last year from the Manning and Great Lakes areas through surveys and focus groups.

She said the feedback showed that women in the Great Lakes area wanted access to classes closer to home because they previously had to travel up to an hour to attend classes at Manning Hospital.

"As a result we have organised a set of three classes which be commencing soon.

"The classes will cover late pregnancy care, the birth and early days in hospital, what to expect when you take your baby home and common issues with feeding your baby," Namira said.

"We plan to hold the classes on three consecutive Saturday mornings, with the aim of getting as many mums-and-dads-to-be as possible to attend.

"The classes cost $80 per family, and we always encourage the pregnant mother’s main support person to attend," she said.

To make a booking for the Birth and Parenting classes, please phone Manning Hospital Maternity 6592 9274.
