Fire upgrade for Cessnock Hospital

28 March 2008

Fire upgrade works at Cessnock Hospital are currently being undertaken and will continue in the coming months to improve the standard of the facility.

Following on from fire upgrades that were completed over December and January, Cessnock Hospital will receive further upgrades before the winter season.

The upgrades include enhanced fire detection, a new electrical switch board and more emergency lighting.

Hunter New England Health Lower Hunter Cluster Manager Yvonne Patricks said the timing of the upgrade is ideal as it coincides with a seasonal downturn in activity, meaning there will be no disruption to services.

“It was necessary to get this upgrade and I am glad the funding was made available to enhance services,” Ms Patricks said.

Ms Patricks also explained that due to the implementation of the upgrades some beds are temporarily unavailable but this will not impact on services.

“We don’t anticipate any change to services at Cessnock Hospital while we make way for upgrades to take place,” she said.

“Normal activity will continue at the hospital and elective procedures are going ahead as planned.”
