Work begins on the new Narrabri District Health Service

There’s an air of excitement at Narrabri District Health Service with the first stage of construction work to begin this week.

From this Thursday, 26 June health staff and the local community will start to see changes on the health service grounds with the main contractor the National Buildplan Group, erecting site sheds and temporary building fences.

Helicopter transfers have already been redirected to Narrabri Airport and arrangements are in place with NSW Ambulance to ensure continuity of care and timely service to patients.

Narrabri District Health Service Manager Sharon Simpson said the majority of the construction work will not impact on the community, but will involve clearing space on the existing site so that we can fully accommodate all the requirements of the new building.

“There will be a new access road created from Gibbons Street and a new 48 berth car park made at the entrance of the new District Health Service. The old nurse’s quarters will be demolished on Friday 30 June to make way for alternate staff parking,” said Ms Simpson.

“We are asking for the community to be patient with increased traffic in the area as well as noisy activities that may take place during the day while the first stage of construction is completed,” Ms Simpson said.

A letter detailing the construction changes will be delivered to nearby residents this week, which outlines some of the activities on site.

National Buildplan and Hunter New England Health are sensitive to potential disruptions to the usual day-to-day life of the community and will use all measures to ensure the work are completed in a safe manner, as quickly as possible.

“The first stage of the development is expected to be completed before the end of the year, initially residents will see a significant change in the landscape as the buildings are demolished. As the construction takes shape, residents will notice only minor changes over time,” Ms Simpson said.
