Get involved: Diabetes up for discussion at health advisory meeting
Members of the local community are encouraged to come along to the next meeting of the Port Stephens West Health Advisory Committee Meeting, on Wednesday, 25 June at 6pm.
Raymond Terrace Community Health Service Manager Wendy Carters said the meetings deal with local health issues and are a wonderful opportunity for people to find out more about their local health services as well as a chance to get involved in making our community a healthier one.
Each meeting features a guest speaker on a specific health issue. This month, Diabetes Education Clinical Nurse Consultant Helen Phelan will talk about diabetes, especially in relation to children.
“Diabetes is a very topical issue and I am sure it would be relevant and appealing to many people within our community,” Ms Carters said.
“The committee welcomes anyone who is interested in finding out more about diabetes, asking questions or making suggestions to come along.”
The Port Stephens West Health Advisory Committee is part of Hunter New England Health’s formal community engagement framework and provides a valuable link between the organisation and the people it serves.
The committee is interested in ensuring all community members have the chance to have their say on how services can be improved in the local area.
