Friends and relatives benefit from donation to Belmont Hospital

Visitors to Belmont Hospital are set to benefit from a donation of $9,300 from Belmont-Eastlakes Palliative Care.

The donation has funded the furnishing of two quiet areas at Belmont Hospital for the use of relative and friends visiting patients.

The fit-out included purchasing television and DVD players, lounges, coffee tables and scenic photographs of Belmont for the walls.

The 14-member committee raised the money mostly from donations from the community of Lake Macquarie – specifically Belmont and Swansea.

Belmont Hospital Health Service Manager Debbie Bradley said that following the opening of the new ward block, there were areas identified specifically for the comfort of patient’s relatives and friends - however these areas hadn’t been able to be furnished as yet.

“The generous funding donated by the Belmont - Eastlakes Palliative Care has enabled the vision to be materialised,” Ms Bradley said.

“Now friends and relatives can be with their loved one in their time of need.

“We are extremely thankful for the support displayed by Belmont-Eastlakes Palliative Care which in turn has allowed us to support the community.”

Belmont-Eastlakes Palliative Care is a long time supporter of Belmont Hospital.

In the past they have donated mobility aids and equipment for use at the hospital. The group also provides transport for palliative care and cancer patients as well as respite for carers.
