Decorating for Jeans for Genes Day
15 July 2008
Friday 1 August is Jeans for Genes Day, the day when people are encouraged to wear jeans and help raise money for finding cures for children’s diseases. This year the Bingara Community Health staff are going to do something a little more fun.
Bingara Community Nurse Tiffany Galvin said they will be holding a competition to decorate a pair of jeans.
"Use your imagination and create a unique masterpiece by drawing, sewing, painting or whatever you like. Let your creative streak run wild and join in the fun," Tiffany said.
There is a $5 entry fee to enter, and there will be prizes for the:
· Best decorated ladies jeans
· Best decorated mens jeans
· Best decorated girls jeans
· Best decorated boys jeans
Community Health staff would like to thank all the contributors of prizes for this fun health promotion activity. Bronwyn and Paul Neate (Bingara Pharmacy), Carlton and Linda Orr (Bingara Post Office), Erik and Noelene Ozols (Imperial Hotel), and Catherine Egan (Catherine’s Hair Design) have all kindly donated prizes for this fun occasion.
Tiffany said Jeans for Genes Day is a fundraising day for the Children’s Medical Research Institute.
"Chances are you probably know someone who has a genetic disease, because one in 20 children are born with some form of genetic fault. There are children with leukaemia, muscular dystrophy, genetic defects and many other disorders.
"This is your chance to help find a cure to some of these diseases and have fun in the process," she said.
All entries are to be left at the Bingara Pharmacy by Monday 28 July, 2008.
Winners will be announced at the Bingara Orange Festival on Saturday 2 August, 2008.
Community Nurses Tiffany Galvin and Sharon Price will also be selling Jeans for Genes fundraising items at the Bingara Pharmacy on Friday 1 August from 10am to 12pm.
All proceeds from both events will go to The Children’s Medical Research Institute.
