Wanted: People interested in setting up Sailability in the Upper Hunter

18 January 2008

Upper Hunter carers and community members are being invited to attend an information session to discuss setting up a branch of Sailability in the Upper Hunter with guest speaker Grahme Rayner attending.

The information session is being organised by Hunter New England Health’s EDuCARE Support Service on behalf of the Upper Hunter Carer Reference Group and the local community.

“We recently established the Upper Hunter Carer Reference Group to advise us on the current needs of local carers and provide input and feedback about our carer support strategies,” Carer Support Officer Mary Myers said.

“It’s clear that there is keen interest in setting up an Upper Hunter branch of Sailability, which is an organisation that facilitates sailing for everyone – regardless of age or ability,” Ms Myers said.

The Upper Hunter Carer Reference Group advises Hunter New England Health’s EDuCARE Support Service to meet its aims of:

  • Providing practical support to assist all carers regardless of age to access the health service and education system.
  • Enhancing the responsiveness of the health service and education system to the needs of all carers.
  • Providing quality information programs and workshops for all carers and professionals within schools, services and local communities.

The information session itself is about establishing an Upper Hunter Sailability and will be held on Monday 4 February 2008 between 10.30am and 11.15am at the Uniting Church Hall in Church Street, Singleton.

The session is free and includes morning tea.

Members of the Upper Hunter community and carers wanting more information, or to make a booking for the information session (for catering purposes) can contact EDuCARE Support Service on 4921 4895 or 1300 887 776.
