An honour for an OAM-aville resident
President of the Vegetable Creek, Emmaville Hospital Auxiliary, Mrs Ellen Seagrave has been recognised with the prestigious honour of a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM), which was awarded on Saturday.
The medal was presented to Mrs Seagrave as part of 2008 Australia Day Celebrations and recognises a lifetime of selfless dedication to the Emmaville community and rural health service.
Health Service Manager for Vegetable Creek Multi Purpose Service Roseanne Rowe said Mrs Seagrave was a treasure among the local community, with her selfless dedication extending to local health services and beyond.
“Mrs Seagrave has worked as a volunteer for the Vegetable Creek Hospital Auxiliary for 30 years, and as president for the past ten. Under her guidance the organisation has gone from strength to strength.
“Mrs Seagrave’s contribution to this auxiliary has been outstanding and exemplary,” Mrs Rowe said.
“Not only does she enthuse and inspire the auxiliary members, she also works side-by-side with them to make their efforts fun and creative,” she said.
Under the enthusiastic leadership of Mrs Seagrave, the Hospital Auxiliary raised over $13 000 in 2006, through the organisation of a fete, as well as catering at a wide variety of events, including stock sales, funeral wakes, lamington sales and Mothers Day.
“The Vegetable Creek, Emmaville MPS benefits enormously from the money raised,” Mrs Rowe said.
“These funds go toward state-of-the-art medical equipment, corporate works, such as a closed-in veranda erected last year, and special treats for the residents on occasions such as Christmas and Mother’s Day.”
The 2008 Vegetable Creek, Emmaville Hospital Auxiliary project is to extend the Senior Citizens’ Cottage.
“Mrs Seagrave was instrumental in campaigning for the new Multi Purpose Service, which is a wonderful facility for this area of New South Wales, for patients and community members alike.
“Her support, and the relationships formed with Hunter New England Health staff, local GPs, community groups and associations, and Auxiliary members is invaluable,” she said.
“Her life is one of service to the community.
“Mrs Seagrave is always available to provide help whenever it is needed. She is humble and expects no thanks,” Mrs Rowe said.
The Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) is the pre-eminent way Australians recognise the achievements and service of their fellow citizens.
The 19-member Council for the Order of Australia considers OAM nominations. The Council makes its recommendations, independent of government, direct to the Governor-General.
Management and staff of Hunter New England Health extend warm congratulations to Ellen Seagrave on this remarkable achievement, and look forward to a continued partnership in 2008.
