Jeans for Genes Day a success!
On Friday 1 August, the staff at Bingara Community Health together with the Bingara Community raised money to help find a cure for children’s genetic diseases.
Bingara Community Nurse Tiffany Galvin said this year the community was asked to unleash their creative skills and imagination by decorating a pair of their best denims for Jeans for Genes Day.
There were 21 entries in the four categories of the competition raising over $500 for the Children’s Medical Research Institute.
The winners were:
• Lyn Fricke for the best decorated ladies jeans.
• Brielle Mack for the best decorated girls’ jeans over 10 years of age.
• Olivia Mack for the best decorated girls’ jeans under 10 years of age.
• Jacob Fernandez for the best decorated boys’ jeans.
“We are hoping to make this an annual event following the tremendous support we received from the community, each entrant created a unique masterpiece by drawing, sewing, painting, their were some amazing pieces of artwork created,” Tiffany said.
Community Health staff would like to thank all the contributors of prizes for this fun health promotion activity. Bronwyn and Paul Neate (Bingara Pharmacy), Carlton and Linda Orr (Bingara Post Office), Erik and Noelene Ozols (Imperial Hotel), and Catherine Egan (Catherine’s Hair Design) have all kindly donated prizes for this fun occasion.
“We’d also like to thank the Bingara Pharmacy for displaying the entries throughout their shop and Diane Logan for making the Jeans for Genes cake which was sold off at the Bingara Craft Group morning tea,” she said.
One in 20 children are born with some form of genetic fault. There are children with leukaemia, muscular dystrophy, genetic defects and many other disorders.
“The Jeans for Genes competition was Bingara’s chance to help find a cure to some of these diseases and have fun in the process,” she said.
