Enjoy the greens for a good cause

27 August 2008

The Armidale community is being invited to enjoy a day out in the spring sunshine this month to support a good local cause.

The Armidale Hospital Auxiliary is holding its annual charity lawn bowls day on Wednesday 10 September, with all profits made on the day to go towards Armidale Hospital’s ‘Wish List’ of new equipment.

Auxiliary president Maureen O’Grady said the day was a great chance for people to show their support for the hospital and have some fun at the same time.

“It’ll be a great day out, starting with registration and a sausage sizzle at 12 noon followed by a casual afternoon of bowls,” Mrs O’Grady said.

“This event is becoming one of the best of our fundraisers, so come along and enjoy some company in Armidale’s spring weather.”

The Auxiliary works tirelessly in the Armidale Hospital kiosk, among other fundraising ventures, to help purchase items for the hospital.

In the past year the Auxiliary has purchased:

• Two ice machines for the medical and surgical wards
• An adjustable bed for the oncology clinic
• Software upgrade for the Exercise Stress Test machine
• Respiratory function measuring equipment for Physiotherapy
• New eye examination equipment for ICU

Tamworth and Armidale Hospitals General Manager Fergus Fitzsimons said the annual bowls day was a chance to show support for the auxiliary.

“The ladies work tirelessly year in and year out to the hospital’s benefit, so it would be great to see the Armidale community continuing to support the auxiliary’s worthwhile fundraising.”

The bowls competition will be played in teams of three (‘triples’) so people can register as teams, or individually to be placed in a team on the day.

Cost is $5 to cover green fees, which the bowling club will donate back to the Auxiliary.

For further information or registration, phone Phil Wheaton at Armidale City Bowling Club on 6772 5666.

Media opportunity: Members of the Armidale Auxiliary are available for photo opportunities on the bowling green upon request.
