Social workers make a world of difference

17 April

Social Workers from across the Hunter and New England regions will converge on Maitland on Friday 18 April to attend a Social Work Forum.

Hunter New England Health Social Work Service Senior Kathryn Bennett said that more than 60 social workers are expected to attend the event.

“Well known social worker Steve Armstrong will speak at the forum, he will talk about collaborative and creative social work supervision, a topic we are all keen to hear about.

“These forums enable us to share our findings right across the health service to reduce issues of professional isolation and encourage best practice standards of work.”

World Social Work Day was also celebrated this week. The day aims to highlight social work's contribution to society and to promote the dialogue on social justice.

This year will mark the second annual World Social Work Day and carries the theme "Social Work - Making a World of Difference".

Social work promotes the social welfare of individuals, groups and communities and facilitates social cohesion.

Social work also supports vulnerable people and communities through periods of difficult economic and social change.
