Red Month in Guyra
29 April 2008
Heart disease remains the major cause of death for both men and women in Australia, which is what’s prompted Guyra Community Health Nurse Sue Adams to take up the Red Month challenge.
Mrs Adams said the National Heart Foundation has extended its normal Heart Week promotion to cover the whole month of May – calling it Red Month.
"There are quite a few things which contribute to heart disease – some are inherited and some are directly related to the lifestyles we choose," she said.
Mrs Adams is also inviting community members to take up the Red Month challenge.
"I’ll be running five free community sessions during May, starting on Tuesday 6 May with a major introductory session, which will introduce what it means to keep your heart healthy. It will also include an opportunity to have your blood pressure taken and even have an ECG, which measures the rhythm of your heart.
All sessions will be held in the HACC Room at the rear of the Guyra MPS and morning tea will be provided.
Mrs Adams said participants will also be given take-home information about heart health to read and share with their family and friends.
Other sessions will be one hour in duration, from 10-11am.
