Nurse gets ten out of TEN
23 April 2008
Praise was flowing this week for Sharna McAvan who completed her Trainee Enrolled Nurse (TEN) program at Inverell Hospital on Monday, with senior nurses extremely proud of her work.
Sharna started her Enrolled Nurse training in April 2007, and since the day she hit the wards, has impressed her supervising Registered Nurses.
Inverell Health Service Educator Faye Dunshea said she has excelled in all areas of her training.
"Enrolled nursing is a career that is learned mostly on the job, with two 7-8 week blocks week of study at Gunnedah TAFE over the year long training program. During that time Sharna has worked and gained valuable experience in medical, surgical, maternity and operating theatres, as well as the Emergency Department," Faye said.
"She has impressed senior nurses throughout the hospital with her attitude to work and her competency. She is thorough, reliable and takes initiative within her scope of practice, and assists greatly in clinical assessments, evaluations and treatment of patient’s conditions.
"It’s rare to find a trainee nurse with so many positive attributes. Her maturity and life experience obviously contribute to this, but managing the demands of the job, study and her six young children is more than most people would even contemplate," she said.
Sharna’s formal graduation will be at The Civic Theatre, Gunnedah on Friday 2 May after which she will join the casual staff at Inverell Health Service.
Faye said on behalf of the staff at Inverell Hospital that they wish her well in her career, confident that she will be an excellent addition to the nursing profession.
