Gloucester vacation care takes a break

After 22 years at the helm of Gloucester Vacation Care, Adele Compton will be calling it a day.

While the Health Service has valued this initiative over the years, we recognise we are not the appropriate agency to provide a child care service which in the past has been funded by another Government agency.

Adele said vacation care started in Gloucester about 25 years ago, when the Gloucester Soldiers Memorial Hospital social worker at the time, Sue Fryer, applied for funding to establish a service for needy families to access supervised care for primary children aged 5-12 years during school holiday periods.

“It’s been a wonderful program in my opinion, however most people seem to have aunties or uncles in town to help look after kids of working parents. I guess we have been lucky to keep it going this long,” she said.

Acting Gloucester Health Service Manager Renee Worthing said Gloucester Health Service and the people of Gloucester would like to say thank you to Adele for her continued service towards this initiative over the years.
