The John Hunter Hospital volunteers have once again demonstrated their dedication to the hospital by raising the highest amount of money out of all hospital auxiliaries in NSW.

The John Hunter Hospital Site Carers raised in excess of $300,000 this past financial year earning them the United Hospital Auxiliaries of NSW Inc. Lillian Dart Award for fundraising.

General Manager of the Greater Newcastle Acute Hospital Network Todd McEwan said this was an outstanding achievement for the Site Carers who have worked tirelessly over the years to provide care and equipment for patients at John Hunter Hospital.

“This is the tenth time our volunteers have received this award for raising the most money in the State which demonstrates the unwavering commitment they have for our hospital,” Mr McEwan said.

“In fact, since 1991 the Site Carers have raised over $2.6 million for the hospital, contributing much needed equipment to assist our staff in providing quality care and treatment for patients.

Some of the equipment purchased with the funds raised by the John Hunter Site Carers this year includes:

  • $40,000 to upgrade beds in Intensive Care Unit.
  • $19,546 for a Gynaecological chair
  • $20,900 for four ECG Machines

“I would like to extend my sincere thanks to each of our volunteers for their efforts and the invaluable support they give to our hospital, not only financially but also through the welcoming environment they create for patients and staff,” Mr McEwan said.

“They are involved in many aspects of improving the experience of patients from booking on-site accommodation through to delivery newspapers and magazines to the wards.”
