Tilligerry, when was the last time you had a checkup?

As part of the Hunter New England Health Regional Health Services program, residents of the Tilligerry Peninsula are invited to attend a free health screening in the local region.

Health screenings are offered free of charge, and are held three times a fortnight.

Regional Health Service Primary Health Care Nurse Susan Neuner offers a basic health check from the centrally located Tilligerry RSL.

“Drop in for a health check, a discussion about your healthcare needs and find out how best to access relevant healthcare services,” she said.

“The fortnightly screenings will help residents to become more aware of potential health problems and promote wellness.

“People with existing health problems can be supported to establish and maintain effective self-management strategies, and for those that need further assessment, we can refer them back to their GP for further review.

“It’s a great opportunity for locals to get an assessment of where they are at with their health, discuss any concerns they may have and find out where they can get further support,” Ms Neuner said.

The screenings are part of the Regional Health Services Program, which focuses on improving health through working closely with the community and early identification of potential health issues.

“As part of the assessment, I can help people identify lifestyle factors which may be prevalent such as smoking, nutrition, physical activity and alcohol, which have all been linked to chronic disease such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke and some cancers.

“It’s all about improving access to health services and information for the local community,” Ms Neuner said.

Health screening session times have recently increased to three times each fortnight. Screening days are every Tuesday and every second Thursday with no appointment necessary.
