Tamworth Health Services Plan complete

Hunter New England Health is pleased to announce the Tamworth Health Services Plan is complete, and has full endorsement from NSW Health.
Hunter New England Health Director of Population Health, Planning and Performance Kim Browne said the endorsement of the plan is a big step towards the redevelopment of Tamworth Hospital.
“This has been a complex process, but we’re pleased that the result is a comprehensive plan that will give us good understanding of what health services the region will need into the future,” Ms Browne said.
The plan outlines the future of service delivery, including key areas of need such as cancer services, women’s health and maternity, cardiac services and mental health services.
The finalisation of the comprehensive plan means HNE Health, in partnership with NSW Health, can now move to the next step in the redevelopment – the appointment of a Project Director, Planning.
“NSW Health Infrastructure is about to begin the tender process to appoint a Project Director, Planning which will oversee the development of the Service Procurement Plan and Project Definition Plan for the redevelopment,” Ms Browne said.
“The development of a Service Procurement Plan will define the physical facilities needed to accommodate the services, such as the number of operating theatres, the size of the Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Department and how many beds will be needed.
“Following this phase, we will move into the Project Definition Plan stage, which is looking at the physical planning of the site and structure.”
The plan has been developed after extensive consultations which included two public meetings in Tamworth, more than 40 meetings with Tamworth health service staff, and meetings with local residents, the University of New England, University of Newcastle, local government and our partners in healthcare such as the North West Slopes Division of General Practice.
