McIntyre Cluster farewells General Manager

Hunter New England Health staff from throughout the McIntyre region will this week extend a fond farewell to Cluster General Manager Lynne Shands.
Ms Shands began her career with the Area Health Service as a Registered Nurse at Glen Innes Hospital in 1985, before fulfilling a number of management positions from 2000. She took on the role of McIntyre Cluster General Manager in 2005.
HNE Health Director of Operations, Primary and Community Networks, Scott McLachlan said Ms Shands had made a significant contribution towards instigating improvements to the health of McIntyre communities during the past 3.5 years.
“Lynne was instrumental in leading the planning and construction of three Multi Purpose Services in the region; Tingha, Bingara and Warialda. This was an intense role and one she fulfilled effectively,” he said.
“On a more localised level, she led the team at Inverell District Hospital towards a planned approach to management and clinical services provision. We are grateful for her dedicated service.”
Ms Shands said she felt privileged to have served as McIntyre Cluster General Manager.
“My fondest memories will be those which reflect the friendships that I have formed over the years. There is a real camaraderie which exists throughout the McIntyre, and it has been a privilege to be a part of the formation of such a great team,” she said.
Maree Bacigalupo will fulfil the role of Acting McIntyre Cluster General Manager for at least the next three months.
An Armidale local, Ms Bacigalupo has spent the past five years overseeing public health systems in a variety of communities throughout the Pacific, including Fiji and Nauru, as well as working with the Secretariat of the Pacific Community based in Noumea, New Caledonia.
She has a very sound clinical background in nursing and midwifery, and has worked in both small and large-scale hospitals, fulfilling frontline clinical roles as well as senior management positions.
Director of Operations, Primary and Community Networks, Scott McLachlan said Ms Bacigalupo was a seasoned health professional with wide-ranging experience in challenging environments.
“Maree has a very open management and leadership style and she known for her ability to resolve problems and generate high levels of co-operative team work. I’m certain she will continue developing the high-quality health services already offered throughout the McIntyre Cluster,” Mr McLachlan said.
