Upper Hunter celebrates Quality

Health services from the Upper Hunter Cluster will be acknowledged for their commitment to delivering quality healthcare programs at a presentation next week.

Quality Coordinator Cheryl Haggarty said the quality improvement projects have been running at specific services within the Upper Hunter Cluster.

“These projects are about improving quality of patient care and service delivery. They also allow the staff to step outside their day to day role and look at the bigger picture and contribute to achieving real changes in healthcare at a local level,” Ms Haggarty said.

The best projects will be entered in the 2009 Hunter New England Health Quality Awards.

The projects include:

• Seeing Eye to Eye – Muswellbrook District Health Service, which aims to streamline ophthalmology services within the Upper Hunter Cluster.

• Bless my Sole – Denman Multi Purpose Service, providing a regular, private podiatry service to residents of Denman.

• Continence Management – Merriwa Multi Purpose Service, helping to implement an effective management program for incontinent residential clients to reduce and prevent recurrent urinary tract infections.

• Keeping the Community Active – Scone District Health Service, improving the links between the community, primary healthcare providers, residential aged care and acute care providers in maintaining an active life style in the over 70s age group.

• www.lets find the spot - Wilson Memorial Community Hospital, aimed at developing an information booklet for the hospital and community about what service are provided on what days and how often.

• Blood Sweat and Tears - Muswellbrook District Health Service, to help improve the processes around consent and education for clients receiving blood transfusion and blood products

The presentation is being held at the Education Centre at Scott Memorial Hospital in Scone on Wednesday 1 April at 9am.

Interested members of the community are invited to attend. Community representatives on Upper Hunter Local Health Advisory Committees will also be attending.
