The Fergie’s still revving strong – how about your body?
26 March 2009
Tractor enthusiasts will gather in Bendemeer this week for the annual Grey Fergie Tractor Muster, but while the rev-heads are checking out the hardware Hunter New England Health staff will be on hand to put the blokes’ bodies over the pit.
Statistically, men are the most unhealthy group in society after the Aboriginal community, and are more likely to die of any cause than women.
Pit Stop is a free health check-up program, which likens parts of the male anatomy to an engine. Men can have their oil levels (blood pressure) tested, spare tyre (girth) checked and asked if they check their ball bearings (testicles) regularly.
Social Health Worker Ann-Marie Kalz said the day would be an ideal time to stop for a quick once-over.
“The challenge to the men from the district and beyond is to see if their body will pass the pits with flying colours or if they’ll be needing follow-up maintenance work,” Ann-Marie said.
“If you haven’t had a check-up in a while stop and have a chat to us.
“Well give you a quick, free assessment and let you know if you’re in good working order.
“Put a challenge out to your mates to work out who's got the Hot Rod. Come and visit our stand at the Grey Fergie Tractor Muster.”
The free program is an initiative of Hunter New England Health to promote the idea of men maintaining their body at an optimum performance level.
The Grey Fergie Tractor Muster will be held on the football fields opposite the Bendemeer Police Station. The Pit Stop stand will be open to the public from 10am on Saturday 28 March 2009.
