Boggabri MPS joins the walk of life
Staff members from the Boggabri Multi Purpose Service (MPS) are preparing to hit the paddock to raise thousands of dollars for the Cancer Council by entering in the Relay for Life to be held at the Boggabri on 28 March.
Organiser, Nicola Seton said we were so inundated with support from the staff here at Boggabri MPS, we decided to form two teams.
“In the past, staff members have supported other teams in the Gunnedah and Narrabri fundraising event, but now we have an opportunity to support our local community and we are very happy to do so,” Ms Seton said.
The teams will start walking at two o’clock on Saturday afternoon and continue through the night until 10 o’clock Sunday morning - non-stop for 20 hours.
“Boggabri MPS is renowned for not only its commitment to community events such as Relay for Life, but also for its style. Last year we won the best dressed award at Gunnedah.” she said.
Boggabri MPS Health Service Manager Shirley Ackland said the goal is not only to raise thousands of dollars which will go towards cancer research but also raising the awareness of the disease and how Boggabri residents can prevent it.
“Staff will take part in a sun safe health promotion service giving out sun cream, making sure people have protective clothing and hats on,” Ms Ackland said.
“I am very proud how the majority of the MPS staff have donated their time and energy to support their community,”
“Relay for Life is a wonderful opportunity for hospital staff to fundraise for a very good cause. Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer and participating in the Relay for Life shows great support towards the local community and the fight for cancer,” she said.
