Boost to Gloucester Hospital with new eye surgery equipment

Gloucester Hospital has received a boost with $100,000 in funding from Hunter New England Health for new eye surgery equipment.

The funding has allowed the hospital to buy a new Alcon Infinity Phaco-emulsifier, a Slit Lamp and DCR surgical equipment.

These pieces of equipment are used for removal of cataracts, detailed eye examinations and very fine surgery on blocked tear ducts.

According to Gloucester Health Service Manager Mr Peter Barber the new equipment is state of the art.

“This upgrade means Gloucester now has eye surgery equipment which is comparable to larger public referral hospitals such as Manning Hospital and also private hospitals within the Lower Mid North Coast region.”

“This new equipment will enhance the ophthalmic surgery that we provide to the people of Gloucester and the surrounding districts.”

“This funding is also a demonstration of the commitment by Hunter New England Health to small rural health services and reassures the future of ophthalmic surgery at Gloucester,” Mr Barber said.

“We are extremely pleased to receive this new eye surgery equipment here at Gloucester Hospital.”
