New Warialda MPS opens its doors to community
20 February 2009
The brand new Warialda Multi Purpose Service (MPS) building will be officially handed over to Hunter New England Health next week (Monday, 23 February).
Once contracted builders, Hansen Yunkens, hands Hunter New England Health the keys, the MPS will receive a final clean before staff can start relocating equipment, paperwork and patients.
HNE Health is throwing open the doors for the public to view the new MPS. Two community walk throughs are planned, weather permitting – one on Saturday, 28 February from 9am to 11am and the other on Sunday, 1 March from 9am to 11am.
The Women’s Auxiliary will be providing morning tea for anyone wishing to stay and have a cuppa after the walk throughs. Gold coin donations taken upon entry to the MPS will be donated towards the Helipad Appeal.
Warialda MPS Health Service Manager Sharon Baker encouraged community members to visit the MPS and inspect the state-of-the-art facility for themselves.
“The MPS has been built with the community in mind and I would really urge local residents to take part in the walk throughs and preview the high-quality inclusions and fresh surrounds,” Ms Baker said.
“As part of the walk-throughs, staff will be available to show people parts of the building which will be off-limits as soon as the MPS becomes operational. So it’s a great opportunity for anyone who is interested in seeing our kitchens, offices, bathrooms and the like.”
Thursday March 5 is the official move in date for patients and residents.
On the Saturday following the patient move in (on March 7) the Women’s Auxiliary will operate a gigantic sale of unwanted excess hospital furniture and equipment, starting at 10am. A barbecue and cold drinks will be available on the day, with all proceeds donated to the helipad appeal.
Items to be sold include old furnishings and electrical items, such as TVs, fridges, fan, air coolers, lounge and kitchen chairs, shelving and cupboards, and lots of other bits and pieces. Proceeds from the sale will go to the Auxiliary.
The new Warialda MPS will include an extensive range of community health services such as child and family health and community nursing. There will also be a range of visiting health workers specialising in areas such as nutrition, drug and alcohol and mental health.
It will also feature a 24-hour emergency department, diagnostic imaging (x-ray), 15 residential aged care beds, 10 acute care beds, and a co-located ambulance service.
