Horsemen, put your bodies over the pit
27 April 2009
Most men take an interest in maintaining their vehicles, but what about their bodies?
Blokes attending this weekend’s premier horse event the King of the Ranges are invited to put their body over the pits and see just how healthy they are.
Statistically, men as a group are one of the most unhealthy groups in society and are more likely to die of any cause than women. That’s where the Pit Stop program comes in.
Pit Stop is a free health check-up program, which likens parts of the male anatomy to an engine. There are 14 different stops including those where men can have their oil levels (blood pressure) tested, spare tyre (girth) checked and asked if they have a balanced wheel alignment (falls prevention).
Wilson Memorial Community Hospital Health Service Manager Judy Collison, and her Head Mechanic (Registered Nurse) Scott Cornall, said the day would be an ideal time for competitors at the King of the Ranges to stop for a quick once-over.
“The challenge to the men from the district and beyond is to see if their body will pass the pits with flying colours or if they’ll be needing follow-up maintenance work,” Ms Collison said.
“If you haven’t had a check-up at the doctor in a while stop and have a chat to us.
“Well give you a quick, free assessment and let you know if you’re in good working order.”
Men, put a challenge out to your mates to work out who’s got the Hot Rod. Come and do yourself a favour and visit our Pit Stop crew for your free health check.
The Pit Stop program is a proud partnership between the health service staff of Wilson Memorial Community Hospital, Quirindi Community Hospital and our partners the King of the Ranges Committee.
Men can come and have a free check up at the Pit Stop at the King of the Ranges horse event, Rosedale Oval, Murrurundi on Saturday (2 May) between 10am and 4pm.
