Australia’s Healthy Weight Week 22-29 January, 2012

It’s easy to forget healthy habits during the festive season. Weight gain during the Christmas holidays is a real risk and once the weight goes on, it can be very difficult to take it off again.

The Gloucester Healthy Weight Week Challenge is a great way to kick-start the year and make weight loss a little easier and more enjoyable this year.

Gloucester Community Health community dietitian Hannah Smoothy said the challenge, run by the HNE Health, will allow local people to get back on track with their health goals.

“The challenge is a 10-week program that will help each person focus on different nutrition and physical activity goals,” Ms Smoothy said.

“Everyone who joins the program will get support, encouragement and new ideas to try for the week, in addition to a meal planner, a food and physical activity diary and shopping guide.”

Ms Smoothy said controlled, sustainable changes to lifestyle are the key to long-term success.

“The idea is simple, make changes one at a time and eventually you end up with a much healthier lifestyle,” she said.

“Most people who reduce weight successfully and forever do it little by little, making gradual changes to their eating and exercising habits. The Healthy Weight Week Challenge will kick start lifestyle changes and get everyone involved on track to healthier habits.”

All community members in the Gloucester area are invited to participate in the free program.

Australia’s Healthy Weight Week is a Dietitian’s Association of Australia initiative and this year all participants in the challenge go into a draw for a free consultation with an accredited practicing dietitian.
