Open day at Narrabri District Health Service

1 November 2011

Narrabri residents will get an opportunity to look around their new health service on Saturday 12 November.

Narrabri Health Service Manager Sharon Simpson said the construction company will hand over the building on Monday 7 November and the community is being given an opportunity to look around the building before it becomes operational.

“Over the next few weeks, we will be commissioning the building, cleaning it and moving in equipment. This is an exciting time in the delivery of health care services to the Narrabri Community and we look forward to showing the new hospital to the public for the first time at the open day,” Ms Simpson said.

“The community has been very patient during two year’s of construction so we want to take this opportunity to thank them,” Ms Simpson said

Designed by Thomson Adsett Architects, the Narrabri facility will provide:

• New facilities for inpatients, emergency department, birthing suite and operating theatre
• A total of 34 beds including 24 overnight acute beds, four overnight sub-acute beds and six day stay beds.
• Co-located and integrated primary and community health services, including an additional consultation/treatment rooms.
• NSW Ambulance Service station
• Two GP / Visiting Specialist consultation rooms, as well as a procedure room
• A dedicated mental health safe room in the emergency department and inpatients
• Two special care rooms for use by palliative care patients
• Staff accommodation, including 2 x two bedroom units, as well as a four bedroom house.
• Office space and staff rooms
• New industrial kitchen
• New loading dock area
• Landscaped garden areas for patients

The final stage of the $41.7 million project will include a new helipad and improved parking.  This work will happen once the existing building is demolished.

Ms Simpson said Narrabri Health Service staff have worked hard to minimise any impact on patients and visitors.

“Our staff have been very focused in continuing to provide high quality care to the community during the construction.”

The Community Open Day will be held on Saturday 12 November between 10am to 2pm. Visitors can come along, enjoy sausage sizzle and be entertained.
