Major repairs to Tamworth Hospital car park

Wednesday, 26 October 2011

Tamworth Hospital’s front car park will get some major repair work this weekend.

On Saturday and Sunday (29 and 30 October) parts of the hospital’s front driveway, on the corner of Dean and Johnston streets, and a number of car parks will be resurfaced.

Some car parks in front of the hospital will remain available for public use on these days. On Saturday, patients and visitors need to follow the signs to the temporary entry to the car park, which will be on Johnston St. The Dean St entrance to the car park will be closed on Saturday and will reopen on Sunday.

Members of the public are also welcome to continue using the two large free car parks at the rear of the hospital site. The first is located next to Ronald McDonald House and the second is opposite the clinics and oncology building.

Tamworth Hospital Acting General Manager Brad Hansen said the repair work would improve comfort for community members.

“Tamworth Hospital is an ageing facility, but we are committed to providing the most safe, accessible public parking possible,” Mr Hansen said.

“We’ll be filling in the pot holes and cracks and tidying up the loose bitumen and gravel in the car park.

“This work will smooth the car park to make both driving and walking to services more comfortable.”

Mr Hansen said car parking would be a major discussion point in planning for the hospital redevelopment.

“We know access to good quality car parking on-site is important to the community,” Mr Hansen said.

“Parking and the movement of traffic around the site will be a major component of the planning we do in coming months.”

In the meantime, Tamworth Management will continue to ask all hospital staff to park at the rear of the site, so visitors can find parks close to the primary hospital buildings, such as the wards, clinics and maternity services.
