EDuCARE EXPO FOR CARERS AND HEALTH PROFESSIONALS

EDuCARE EXPO FOR CARERS AND HEALTH PROFESSIONALS

10 October 2011

With more than 10 per cent of the population taking care of a family member, friend or loved one, providing support for carers is becoming increasingly important.

With this in mind, the Hunter New England Health EDuCARE Support Service is holding a free Carers’ Expo on Thursday 13 October at Cardiff Panthers.

EDuCARE Acting Service Manager Louise Lazic said the Expo will provide carers and health professionals with information and resources to assist them in their roles.

“Guest speakers will share information on relevant topics and more than 60 exhibitors will be available to provide information and speak with attendees on the day,” Ms Lazic said.

Topics covered by the guest speakers will include:
• Caring for a person with brain injury
• Autism spectrum disorder
• Legal issues for carers
• Dementia

Exhibitors include various Hunter New England Health services, Carers NSW, Centrelink, Turnbull Hill Solicitors, Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre, Alzheimers Association, children’s services and aged care services.

Ms Lazic said the event is an opportunity to gain advice from experts and network with other carers and professionals.

The Expo is being held in conjunction with 2011 Carers Week (16 – 22 October).

It will be held on Thursday 13 October from 9.30am to 3.30pm at Cardiff Panthers, Cnr Pendlebury and Munibung Roads, Cardiff.  Entry is free.
