Inverell Hospital to celebrate the role of midwives
Tuesday 3 May, 2011
Hunter New England Health’s valued midwives will come together to celebrate the vital role they play in our communities this Thursday, International Midwives Day (5 May).
Inverell Hospital’s Maternity Nurse Unit Manager, Libby Pitman, said the day was a chance for HNE Health and members of the community to recognise the important role of midwives.
“International Midwives Day gives those who have been cared for by a midwife an opportunity to provide recognition and appreciation for the skills and commitment of our dedicated midwives,” Ms Pitman said.
“Midwives take on the important role of supporting women and their families through what is a very challenging but also life-affirming moment.
“Midwives provide support to mothers during pregnancy, during birth and following birth, providing guidance to families to make sure the baby has the best possible start to life.”
Ms Pitman said along with celebrating the work of HNE Health midwives, International Midwives Day is also a chance to showcase midwifery as an attractive and challenging career choice.
“Midwives are passionate about their work, and committed to ensuring that every woman has the best experience of pregnancy and birth as possible,” Ms Pitman said.
“Midwives enjoy a high level of work satisfaction and a rewarding career path within the public and private sectors.”
