Work begins on final stage of Manilla Health Service

2 March 2011

Construction of the final stage of new Manilla Multi Purpose Service (MPS) HealthOne has begun, with concrete foundations to be complete in the coming fortnight.

The final stage will complete the $19 million development, which will provide the Manilla community with a fully integrated ‘one stop shop’ where residents can access all of the communities health services, from GP services and preventative healthcare to acute services, all in one location.

Manilla Health Service manager Tim Whyte said work is on-track, with construction expected to be complete in early 2012.

“During December we moved all of our health services into the new part of our health facility,” Mr Whyte said. “All services will be provided out of this new building while construction on Stage 2 of the new Manilla MPS HealthOne continues.

“Since January, the builders have demolished the remaining older section of the former hospital, cleared the site and are currently completing work on the last of the concrete foundations.

“This time next year Manilla residents will have access to one of the newest, most innovative health services in the country.”

The second stage of the Manilla MPS HealthOne facility will provide:

• 12 new acute care rooms
• New front entrance with covered drop-off point
• A new birthing suite, with in-room bath
• New permanent two-bay emergency department, with more private entrance
• Clinic rooms for Manilla GPs and visiting specialists
• Treatment rooms and work areas for Community Health services
• A large, secure landscaped central courtyard
• A four bedroom self-contained staff accommodation complex

Mr Whyte said it was important the community understands that all services offered at Manilla Health Service will continue uninterrupted while construction of the new facility is underway.

“Our staff are working well to ensure we provide good quality care to patients while the work is going on,” Mr Whyte said. “If you are unsure where a service is now located please ask one of our staff members who are more than happy to help you find what you are looking for.

“Please also note that parking on the site is now limited, but community members are welcome to park in Court St, outside the health service.

“If any community members have questions about the redevelopment or access to our services they are more than welcome to call me at Manilla Health Service on 6785 4000,” Mr Whyte said.
